Conference on Art, Sound and Radio at Harp Art Lab 28 May 2015

CONFERENCE ON ART, SOUND AND RADIO
28-29 May 2015, Halland, Sweden.

What is included in the concept of sound art? What sort of infrastructure is needed for sound art to develop positively? What might collaboration between art, sound and radio look like?
These are some of the questions that we shall try to answer during two days in Halland with the help of artists, theorists, and representatives of institutions in Sweden, Europe and the USA. The conference is divided into three sections in which we shall consider the following issues in greater depth:
What does sound art do?

Historical and theoretical aspects pertaining to what sound art can be, but also what the latest developments look like featuring sound in contemporary art.
How do institutions work with sound art?

We meet some of Europe’s leading institutions working with art and sound: Laboral (Gijón), Singuhr (Berlin) and Lydgalleriet (Bergen) which devote themselves to the field of experimental sound art with exhibitions, festivals, and concerts as well as residencies and laboratories. Performance by Harp Art Lab, which has been transformed from a windmill into a location for sound-art festivals and the permanent work known as KVARNOFONEN.

What can art and radio do together? How is radio used in art? How can historically important buildings and settings function as art infrastructure? Susan Philipsz will give an introduction to her artistic praxis and to the project The Distant Sound. Museo de Arte Contemporanea de Barcelona (MACBA) will present the museum’s web-radio initiative. Practical workshop on how institutions can work with casting together with MACBA and Fabel.

THE CONFERENCE ON ART, SOUND AND RADIO is a joint venture between the Swedish Exhibition Agency and Halland Art Museum/Art in Halland, in collaboration with Halmstad municipality, Harp Art Lab, World Heritage Site Grimeton Radio Station and Region Halland.
